Work

Senior UX Designer
Kooth
2022 - Present
Following 2 roles in the B2B business software/SaaS sector, I wanted to change industries to something with more social impact as well as step into a senior role. My role at Kooth sees me lead on the design and UX of a product area. I am also actively contributing as an accessibility SME. I work across the full design process, leading on discovery, facilitation and running research and analysis. I have recently been a mentor for a UX placement student, setting up a project for her and being her main point of contact and support provider.

User Experience Designer
Matillion
2021 - 2022
I joined Matillion in August 2021 after an ex-colleague there recommended me to the UX director. I wanted to gain experience of working in a fast paced startup environment with more creative freedom. At Matillion I work across two squads, taking part in scrum ceremonies and day-to-day design work as well as working on the larger design visions in my product area. As part of the product team, I work incredibly closely with my product owners and managers as well as engineering, documentation, training and marketing teams. As a small design team, I actively seek and contribute to design input in the form of weekly design reviews. Here, I've been able to dramatically grow my design skills by being the sole designer in my product area, working to deadlines and by contributing to our design system.
User Experience Designer
FinancialForce

2018 - 2021

I joined the company in the role of "Graduate UX Designer" as part of the company's graduate program. This gave me lots of hands-on experience shadowing the other designers, becoming accustomed to life as a designer in the company and learning the agile ceremonies. Following the 9 month program I became a dedicated designer to a feature crew and my title became "Associate UX Designer". I was then promoted to "UX Designer" 6 months later. Over the course of my time in the company I experienced working across multiple feature crews, working with teams across different time zones and languages as well as working with teams who didn't have the experience of working with a designer before.

My day to day activities saw me taking part in daily standups with my development team, creating designs and mock-ups to be tested with internal and external customers, facilitating workshops, running customer interviews and testing sessions as well as checking in with stakeholders to maintain visibility of progress.

In this role I was also able to put my passion for accessibility to good use by creating accessibility guidelines, checklist and training resources. I was very active in raising awareness of accessibility by creating an internal slack community and giving a presentation to the entire company at one of our town halls.

Research Internships
Robert Gordon University

2016 - 2017

I carried out a summer research internship with the School of Computing and Digital Media at Robert Gordon University. The project I undertook was titled: "A Taxonomy for Accessibility in Digital Board Gaming". The aim of this project was to identify accessibility issues found in current board games, consider different solutions to these problems and create a developer guide to be used by future board game developers in order to address accessibility issues experienced by players. The following year I resumed this role, instead looking at levels of accessibility knowledge held by the current computing students. I worked on analysing data gathered in focus groups that were held prior to my involvement. I then used insights from these results to create posters to be used at the 4TG conference in Aberdeen to raise awareness of accessibility in gaming. I became a contributor to the website "Meeple Like Us" and assisted with accessibility assessments of board games to be reviewed on this website. This then formed the basis for my honours project.

Teaching Assistant
Salesians Sarrià

2016 - 2017

I undertook a year long placement teaching computing and multimedia design in a college based in Barcelona. I was responsible for delivering a module titled, "Planning and Editorial Standards of Multimedia Projects". In this module, I taught the basics of User Experience and Interface Design, Javascript basics and HTML5 Canvas for animations. This then culminated in a final project using Adobe Animate to create a 2D game.
